Search engine algorithm's change so often, how can you ever keep up with it? Just as soon as you get your site the way you think its suppose to be and you begin rising up the search engine ranks, BAM - you get shoved back down to the bottom of the pile. This happens countless times every single day.

There is no real answer for you at this point! Or is there? There are a few things you can do that'll ensure your site stays at the top of the search engines and its not easy. Constant vigilance is needed in watching the competition, getting backlinks, continuous website growth, and more. Let's talk about each of the following:

Watching the competition:

First things first, you must know exactly what your competition is doing at all times! The way to figure out who your competition is, is to go to the search engines and type in your keyword phrase as shown: "keyword phrase". Putting the quotes around the keyword will show exactly who is targeting that particular keyword your wanting to rank high in the search engines for!

The following is what you can watch for when keeping an eye out on the competition:

• Do they have the keyword phrase in the title of the page?
• Do there meta tags for description and keywords display the keyword phrase?
• Is the keyword phrase within the H1 tag?
• Does the first paragraph start out with the keyword phrase?
• Is the keyword phrase bold, italic, and underlined within the body of the page?
• Do they have a link somewhere within the body displaying the keyword phrase: Improved Search Engine Rank
• Is there one picture on the site that shows the alternate text tag having the keyword phrase + image.jpg?
• And finally, is the last word on that page the primary keyword phrase?

If the sites ranking in the top ten spots are doing this with the page that's ranking for your keyword phrase, then you'll have to do it as well. In fact, do this for every single page within your website and over time, your pages will begin rising up through the search engines!

The next thing you'll have to do when analyzing your competition is locate all the sites displaying backlinks to there site using the keyword phrase...
